“I want to be in a relationship now, but I need to work on myself first so I can be better at relationships.”
“I want to make art now, but I need to take art classes first.”
“I want to live in a warmer place, but I want to be where I live now when the weather here is beautiful.”
There it is. That BUT. A small word that can create a big block to what we want in our lives.
A word that has us looking for the thing when we don’t believe we already do have the thing. Or when the thing is just within arm’s reach.
When we don’t really believe we can have the thing we want.
And now, I give you AND.
A simple word that maneuvers around the big block, the way a tiny leaf flows around an imposing boulder on its journey down the stream.
“I want to be in a relationship now, AND I want to work on myself so I can be better at relationships.” (Relationships are awesome for showing us where we can grow.)
“I want to make art now, AND I want to take art classes.” (Hell yes to both.)
“I want to live in a warmer place AND I want to be where I live now when the weather here is beautiful.” (Now you know what I want-to not have to wear my warm hat IN the house!)
I am learning that AND is one of the most powerful words we have.
When my BUT is in the way, my scarcity beliefs are the reason- beliefs that I can’t have it the way I want it. Not until I learn blah de blah blah. That old boulder.
Now I practice getting my BUT out of my way with AND:
“I want to have what I want, AND I do not need to fix myself first before I can have it.” (AND I get to continue to learn how to get out of my own way.)
When I do, I feel excited from being aligned with what I love, and I see how so much more is possible for me.
AND is creative, opening us up to possibility.
AND is P*ssytwinkle.
Did you see what else I did? I replaced NEED with WANT- another small but mighty power move. But that’s another post.
I’m curious- where can you replace BUT with AND when it comes to what you want?
