And it is at the core of what I consider Rumi's best mic drop.
He had a lot of them, but none speak to me as profoundly, has the most potential to heal us, and to create a better world with each other as this one:
"Somewhere between right-doing and wrong-doing there is a field. I will meet you there."
This space is nuanced, not black and white. It is forgiving, not harsh. It is flexible, not rigid. It is yielding, not relentless. It is humble, not certain.
Rumi's field is the incubator of infinite possibility. It is where hope for our relationships, our lives and for our world lives.
Rumi's field, the space between right-doing and wrong-doing is CREATIVE:
It changes perspectives, and holds many at once.
It tries something new.
It invites "and" thinking.
It is collaborative.
It invites us to express ourselves: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." John 1:1.
And we all know what God/Universe/Source went on to create.
What inspires creativity?
It's LOVE. Because love is a desire that creativity makes manifest.
You are creating ALL the time. In every minute of your day.
What are you creating? More importantly, what energy are you creating with?
Is it love, or fear? Is it loose and flexible, or tight and rigid? It is warmth, or is it harshness? Is it collaboration, or is it domination? Is it trust, or is it cynicism?
Your energy will create SOMETHING whether you like it or not.
How would it feel to LOVE what you are creating?
Ask yourself, "What is the outcome I desire?"
What do you WANT to create?
DECIDE.
